Activities on Don Som and around
Many people come to us to rest, enjoy the view, read a book (we have a 'mini library'), enjoy our food and drinks, and have a relaxed time. But there is also the opportunity to be active! You can make a motorbike trip around our island or neighboring islands (Don Det, Don Khone, or Don Khong, for example) or visit the enormous Khone Phapheng Falls. You can also swim in the Mekong River, take walks around the island, take a cooking class (see more about that here), learn to fish like a local on a fishing trip, or go on a boat trip.
Fishing Trip
During our Fishing Trip, you will learn how to fish with a net in the Mekong River. You will go out onto the river for two hours with local fishermen (no English spoken, but they will show you how to do it) to fish together. If you catch any fish, we can prepare them for you. A simple but fun activity that shows you more about life in our area and introduces you to local fishermen.
Walk around and explore the island
A simple but beautiful way to discover the island (or our village) is to walk around. The sunset is beautiful most days, and you can enjoy it about 500 meters from us (in the rice fields). We have maps of the island and are happy to give you tips on what to see. It is mainly authentic Laotian rural life that you will see. Simple but interesting, and a beautiful way to see Laotian life up close.
Boat Trip on the Mekong
A boat trip is a wonderful way to see life on and around the river and to enjoy the beautiful nature. We are happy to provide you with more information about this when you are staying with us at Don Som Riverside Guesthouse.
